Ok, so I have another future post I wanted to do on the lack of sensory apps we could find for the Android tablet. I would have thought there would be more. That is until we found the only Android app he likes.
For this post, though, I want to stay on the positive. So I wanted to talk about the one sensory app we did find that my son loves to play with.
So, what is this?
So, just as a bit of background. Little Mr doesn’t, currently, play games. Where he is today he wouldn’t know how to play games. Combine this with him being very sensory input, we set out to find an app that filled both fun visually and also gave audio sensory input.
We honestly didn’t find that much; at least that much at his level. It took us a while to find an app that he seemed to enjoy until we came across an app on Amazon (his tablet is a Kindle Fire) called Sensory Baby Toddler Learning (both these links are Amazon affiliate links – just to let you know).
Why does he (and we) like this app then
So, the great thing about this app is that it has both a visual sensory and audio sensory element. Yo start with, you have the fish that are swimming. You can choose different fish and aquatic animals. I believe you can choose the background to some element too.
Next, you get to choose the visual, and audible, part. When you touch the screen it sets off the chosen items, such as bubbles, stars, etc. Along with that are some different sounds for etc. So, you have the visual part of fish swimming, then you have the touch part which sets off move visual aspects and the audio.
This is all set in a beautiful backdrop and graphics. We’ve tried and tested others we have found; not that there are that many to try to be honest. The next nearest was similar in that it has objects and audio. This, however, had just a black backdrop. It was not as visually stimulating to look at and so interest was lost quickly by little Mr.
We would love to find more apps
We still keep looking. We are still searching for more great sensory apps on Android. There are a couple or so, most of which don’t suit his needs. We are happy that we at east found one. We also hope, as he grows, that he will be able to follow more complex tasks and apps. At that point, more options will be open to us. For now, though, we are glad that we found the only Android app he likes as at least this keeps him entertained for short times.

I recently came across the following quote
“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.”
― Maya Angelou
This is my new goal in life. Not to conform to be normal, but to be amazing and I hope to inspire you to be amazing too.
